At best, teachers are
underappreciated; at worst they are
harassed. A survey of teachers who've taught
more than 10 years also showed
that 81% of them felt students today show less
respect for authority than
previous generations.

elders who rule well be considered
worthy of double honor, especially those who
work hard at preaching and

TEACHERS
Gary Moriello, Principal of
Gladstone School in Illinois had
a substitute teacher walk out of the room
because of the behavior of the
students. She looked around the room and said,
“Suddenly, I feel ill. I'm going
home.” At McAuliffe School in Chicago's Hermosa
neighborhood, a group of
students recently threw crayons and books at a
substitute teacher who just
“couldn't cope with the kids,” said one local
school council member. “And these
were first-graders.”

TEACHERS
Judith
Toensing
taught sixth grade in 1997. At the end of
the school year she wrote on student
Christian Gilmer’s report card. “Keep up the
good work! Invite me to your
Harvard graduation.” Christian just
graduated from Harvard as a doctor of
public health. She sent an invitation to Ms.
Toensing who attended and shared
the big day. Speaking of her teacher she
said, “She lit a fire in me.”
The
heartbeat of
every good teacher is the success of their
students. The heartbeat of every
good pastor is the spiritual success of the
flock. The heartbeat of every good
parent is the success of their children.
What a blessing when we can share the
good times. —Jim L. Wilson and Rodger
Russell.
