Gary Zukav has been sharing
his spiritual insights with Oprah since the fall
of 1998. In a recent episode, he responded to
the following question: “How does one heal the
inner feelings of worthlessness and low
self-esteem?” by saying, “This is the core issue
of the human experience. Low self-esteem or lack
of self-worth is not merely a psychological or
sociological problem. It is the circumstance
with which all humans struggle.”

But why is it that everyone
feels this way about themselves? Why is it that
we feel like we are somehow supposed to be
better than we are or that we are better than we
think we are? Why do we need others to affirm
us; to convince us that we are OK? Doesn't this
suggest that we are not OK? The Bible tells us
that we are not OK because of our sin separates
us from God.
1 John 1:10 NLT “If we claim
we have not sinned, we are calling God a liar
and showing that his word has no place in our
hearts.”

Emile
Ratelband asked a court in Arnhem to shift his
birth date from March 11, 1949, to March 11,
1969, saying that if people can change their
gender, “why can’t I decide my own age?”
Ratelband, A Dutch “positivity guru” is
seeking to change his age from 69 to 49,
arguing that he feels far younger than his
years. “I have the body and mind of a “young
god,” he says, believing 20 fewer years will
help him find love on dating apps.
At different
times in a lifetime we realize that we may not
be like everyone else. There may be something
about you I like better, or something about me
I like worse. But you and I were both made in
God’s image, he knew us, he loved us, and we
can be satisfied with who we are. —Jim L.

Sometimes
when
we look around at others, we get the idea that
everybody else is better
off, and have a better life that we do. Social
media exaggerates this feeling
as we see the people with their perfect
families, beautiful homes, and
fantastic jobs they post online. “But the
truth is,” says Joshua Becker on his
blog, becomingminimalist.com, “nobody is as
successful as Instagram makes them
look, nobody is as beautiful as filters make
them seem, nobody is as
disciplined as their writing describes them,
and nobody is as put together as
their social media portrays.”

It
is
too easy to get frustrated with our own life
when we place others on a pedestal
assuming they’ve got everything figured out.
We need to remember that before
God, we are all in the same condition. — Jim

Romans 3:10–12 (CSB)
as
it is written:
There is no
one
righteous, not even one.
There
is no one
who understands;
there
is no one
who seeks God.
All
have turned
away;
all
alike have
become worthless.
There
is no one
who does what is good,
not
even one.
