In his book, The End of the
World… As We Know It,
Chuck Smith, Jr. wrote, "Postmodernity is what
comes after the cult of
science. Because it lacks modernism's allegiance
to science, it might seem
that postmodernity is antagonistic toward
science. But that is not really
the case. Postmoderns don't reject science, they
simply don't view the
scientific method as the only way to approach a
problem."

Know It, p. 49 Illustration

Today, most people no longer
believe that science
will solve our problems and are looking for
other approaches. Some turn
to spiritualism or mysticism, but others will
turn to faith if we invite
them to.

In an interview with Diane

science.”

His newest book, The Grand
Design attempts to make
the case, but has received skeptical reviews
from scientists themselves.
While the scientists argue,
Christians know that
the “God-shaped hole” in the heart of man can be
filled only by God.
Psalm 14:1 (NASB77) “The fool
has said in his heart,
‘There is no God.’ They are corrupt, they have
committed abominable deeds;
There is no one who does
good.”

In an opinion piece in the Times
Free Press author Roger Smith comments
on the tremendous educational
opportunity offered to American children
without the accompanying ethical
teaching that gives education direction. In
the article Smith quotes General
Omar Bradley as writing, "We have grasped the mystery
of the atom and rejected
the Sermon on the Mount. The world has
achieved brilliance without conscience.
Ours is a world of nuclear giants and ethical
infants."
Bradley’s comment succinctly
pegs the dilemma the Western
world is facing. We have chased the foundation
of morality out of our public
conscience. The truths from God’s word are off
limits due to some misguided
ideas about the separation of church and
state. —Jim L. Wilson and Rodger
