PROMISES/TRUST

In his book, the Name of God’s Promises, Mark Tabb writes, “The message of promise is the beginning and end of everything that is included in the Bible. It undergirds every word, sometimes openly, sometimes subtly, but it is always there. God’s promises are the common thread that unites the Old and New Testament, the core that makes sixty-six books into one.”

George Orwell said, “At a time of universal deceit - telling the truth is a revolutionary act." (http://www.democraticunderground.com/articles/04/01/06_spin.html) I’d like to add to Orwell’s quote by saying that believing the one who is totally honest, who always keeps his promises is also revolutionary act. I don’t know a better recipe for being a world changer then to immerse myself in God’s instructions and take Him at His word when He promises something.

Joshua 23:14 NIV "Now I am about to go the way of all the earth. You know with all your heart and soul that not one of all the good promises the Lord your God gave you has failed. Every promise has been fulfilled; not one has failed.”

PROMISE

A software error was responsible for the tax department in Ohio making promises it couldn’t keep.  In January, Denise Bosetti received a letter stating that her $200 million tax refund could not be paid by direct deposit but that she would receive a check.

Bosetti says she and her boyfriend had a “big laugh” over the letter. About a week later she received a letter explaining the computer error.

1 Corinthians 1:9 (NIV) God, who has called you into fellowship with his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, is faithful.

PROMISES

A candy company stuck to its word and sent a man from Texas a Louisville Slugger baseball glove 60 years after a contest began. Darwin Day was cleaning and found a complete collection of Topps baseball cards from 1957 and 58. The cards had belonged to his brother who had died of cancer earlier in the year. One of the cards he found had a contest offering prizes to the owner if they would correctly fill out the scores from some professional baseball games. Since there was no deadline listed, he filled out the card and mailed it in. A few days later, he received a call from a marketing company representing the candy company. In addition to the glove, he also received T-shirts, a pillow, and a lot of gum.—Jim L. Wilson and Jim Sandell
