In an article for Newsweek,
Fareed Zakaria berated Christian
preachers for making anti-Muslim statements. He
called their statements,
“bigoted rantings by preachers.” He wrote,
“Falwell, Robertson and Graham’s
hate-filled campaign is lighting fires that
could grow into a terrible
conflagration.”

Isn’t Zakari’s article the
pot calling the kettle
intolerant? Don’t his words seem hate-filled? I
guess it is wrong to criticize
anyone in the Muslim world, but OK to have a
field day on Christian preachers.

INTOLERANCE
On June 16, 1998 Senator
Trent Lott taped an interview for
“The Armstrong Williams Show” on the America's
Voice television network. During
the interview, Williams asked Lott whether he
considers homosexuality a sin and
Lott replied, “Yeah, it is.”
Lott added: “You should still
love that person. You should
not try to mistreat them or treat them as
outcasts. You should try to show them
a way to deal with that problem, just like
alcohol… or sex addiction… or
kleptomaniacs.” (AP-NY-06-16-98 0922 EDT)
What was the response of the
Gay Community? One web site
featured the AP article with the headline:
"Trent Lott: Hate Mongering
Homophobic Christian Bigot Exposed." The page
also included the word
"moron" several times in reference to those who
want to show love
toward homosexuals and help them deal with their
problem.

Isn't that response a bit
intolerant? Aren't those who are
angry with Christianity's so-called intolerance
showing extreme intolerance
themselves with their reaction to it?
INTOLERANCE
An
anonymous woman decided
having her wedding guests eat from a vegan
menu, her preferred lifestyle, was
not enough. She demanded every guest vow to
adopt a vegan lifestyle, even after
the wedding was over. She disinvited all the
guests from her wedding who
refused to give up meat for the rest of
their lives. The post went viral before
Facebook took it down. The 20-year-old woman
explained that among those she
eliminated from her guest list were her
mother and two cousins who were to act
as bridesmaids.

As we become
more and more divided on social issues in
our
modern culture, this is just another example
of drawing our circle of influence
smaller and smaller. As believers, we need
to learn to draw our circle larger
and larger. How can you influence people if
you shut them out of your life? —Jim
