GOOD SHEPHERD
A Seminary professor took a group of students to the
Holy Land. While traveling on a bus through the area, the professor prepared
the students for their next lesson.
One day he was telling the students about Jesus being
the Good Shepherd. He told them how shepherds in Palestine lead the sheep
rather than driving them from behind.
Just as he was making his point, the bus stopped to
let some sheep cross the road. To their surprise, the people on the bus
saw a man with a whip, driving the sheep from behind.
The teacher got out of the bus and asked the man,
"My friend, I was always told that shepherds in Palestine lead their sheep.
They do not drive them as you are doing."
The man responded, "You are right; but you see, I
am not a shepherd—I am the village butcher."

John 10:11-14 "I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd
giveth his life for the sheep. [12] But he that is an hireling, and not
the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth
the sheep, and fleeth: and the wolf catcheth them, and scattereth the sheep.
[13] The hireling fleeth, because he is an hireling, and careth not for
the sheep. [14] I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known
of mine."

Croatia recently launched a reality show with a twist.
The program, which was seen on the Internet, did not feature the lives
of people; instead the program's stars were sheep. The winner of the competition
received poetry in its honor rather than a cash prize.
The program called "Stado" (herd) allowed viewers
to see how the sheep fed and interacted with each other. The website then
asked viewers to choose which sheep to vote off. Getting kicked off the
show had serious consequences because those removed from the herd might
be eaten.
Despite protests from animal rights activists, the
organizer of the program, Sinisa Labrovic, insisted the sheep were treated
well. He claimed his purpose for the program was to show that "more and
more people, especially those who take part in reality shows, are made
to look like sheep in every situation."

John 10:14-15 (NASB) "I am the good shepherd, and
I know My own and My own know Me, [15] even as the Father knows Me and
I know the Father; and I lay down My life for the sheep."

According to Andrea Stone, Americans are consulting
psychics in greater numbers because of the economic downturn. This includes
executives, business owners, homeowners, and investors. Psychics report
that people are asking about economic issues rather than the old standby,
love and romance.

Zechariah 10:2 (TEV) People consult idols and fortunetellers,
but the answers they get are lies and nonsense. Some interpret dreams,
but only mislead you; the comfort they give is useless. So the people wander
about like lost sheep. They are in trouble because they have no leader.
