An Oklahoma City man asked
for and received a prison term longer than
prosecutors and defense attorneys had agreed to
because he was die-hard fan of the Boston
Celtics. Lawyers representing the man reached a
plea agreement for a 30-year sentence on charges
of intent to kill and robbery. When the
defendant heard the sentence, he asked that time
be added to his sentence so his prison term
would match the jersey number of Celtics great

Oklahoma County District
Judge Ray Elliott said the prisoner told them if
he was going to go down, he wanted to go down in
Larry Bird's jersey. Elliott said, "We

never seen anything like this in 26 years in the

On a recent episode of the
television reality program “Survivor,” a
contestant did the impossible and voted himself
off the program. According the rules of the
show, a contestant cannot vote against
themselves, but the contestant Tyson managed to
vote against himself in an unusual way.
When Tyson’s alliance made
their plans for an upcoming vote to remove a
player, they decided to split their vote between
the two players in question, Russell and
Parvati. The team suspected Russell might have
secret immunity, and they wanted to make sure
they could overcome the challenge. Just before
the final vote, Tyson decided he wanted to make
sure Parvati went home, and changed his vote. He
did not know the remaining three people had
voted for him to be kicked off the
program.
When the vote was revealed,
Russell used his immunity token, and then gave
it to Parvati, saying something about honor and
integrity. His choice to give the token away
meant Russell and Tyson should have had three
votes each. Since Tyson had changed his vote at
the last minute, the tally was three against him
versus two against Russell. The result was Tyson
effectively voted himself off the program by
changing his decision at the last minute. In his
exit interview Tyson remarked, “Oh man, I have
nobody to blame by myself. I was the victim of
my own stupidity.”

people visited the shooter’s family to say they

incomprehensible to the world; because if it,
people have even accused the families of being
bad parents, of not dealing properly with their
anger, of living in denial.
It is just this sort of
love that is crazy to the world; true love, a

An error is a familiar term in baseball.
Although most errors occur on the playing field,
some may turn up in other places. Recently the
Chicago Cubs announced that they had made an
error with two pictures they put up on a mural
at Wrigley field celebrating the 100th
anniversary of the team. The display included a
1927 photograph of the late aviator Charles
Lindbergh, until the team realized the picture
had been taken across town at Comiskey Park, the
former home of the Chicago White Sox.
After the first error was discovered, officials
took a closer look at the mural and discovered a
photo of President Franklin Roosevelt that was
taken at Wrigley Field. The caption read that
Roosevelt was president at the time, but
technically, it was taken before he was elected.
Team Spokesman Julian Green said the team is

taken at Wrigley. Green added, “We are now

was surprised and confused when a package
arrived at his home containing something that
he had ordered eight years earlier. When the
package was dropped off on his doorstep Elliot
Berinstein said he was confused because he had
not ordered anything from the company in a
long time. He remembered the order when he
opened the package and found a tube of
hair-styling product and an invoice dated
eight years earlier. He said he started
laughing because he thought it as funny the
product had taken so long to arrive that the
tacking code was no longer valid. Berinstein
said he decided not to use the product because
he thought it was likely out of date. A
representative of the Canadian Post said they
were looking into the matter but could only
speculate at what might have delayed the
delivery so long. –Jim L. Wilson and Jim

FOOLISHNESS
Nassau County, New York
District Attorney Madeline Singas announced that
a 25-year-old man from the area is facing jail
time because he tried to forge his death
certificate to avoid serving another jail
sentence. The prosecutor said he might have been
successful if not for the typos in the document.
Singas said when officials inspected the
document, they noticed that the font type and
size had been changed and the word, “Registry”
in the “ISSUED BY” section had been misspelled.
The man allegedly tricked an attorney into
filing the paperwork for him, but the attorney
dropped him as a client when he learned the
truth. In a statement, Singas said, “Submitting
fake documents to prosecutors is always a bad
idea and while he’d have been caught regardless,
failure to use spell check made this alleged
fraud especially glaring.”—Jim L. Wilson and Jim

25-year-old Param Sharma was
arrested for “reckless driving” because he was
in the back seat of his Tesla, without another
person in the driver’s seat, as his Tesla was
in either “Autopilot,” or “Full Self-Driving”
mode.
Apparently, the arrest has not
changed Sharma’s resolve to be a backseat
driver, he told a KTVU television reporter,
“I’m gonna go in the back seat right now. You
feel me?”
Animal rescuers
rushed to a Singapore home after a woman
called them because she thought she
heard a cobra hissing in her bathroom. When
the woman called the emergency number,
she sent the team a recording of the noise
she heard, which they believed could
be the sound of a deadly black spitting
cobra, a dangerous venomous snake. The
team searched the home for an hour before
one of them found the source of the hissing
sound. He found an electric
toothbrush in the corner. He turned the
device off and on again to verify it
was the source of the hissing. The woman
later said, the toothbrush was
malfunctioning because water had gotten into
the battery compartment, which
caused it to make the unusual noise. —Jim L.
