One hundred decoys were
placed on the Izu peninsula of Japan
to attract endangered albatrosses and encourage
them to breed. For more than
two years, a 5-year-old albatross named Deko
tried to woo a wooden decoy by
building fancy nests and fighting off rival
suitors. He spent his days standing
faithfully by her side. Japanese researcher
Fumio Sato, talking about the
albatross's infatuation with the wooden decoy,
said, "He seems to have no
desire to date real birds."
People who give their
affections to the false gods of this
world will never have that love returned.
Experiencing God's love spoils our
attraction for imitations.

FALSE
GODS
Alaskan,
Barrett
Fletcher identifies as a pastor. He is the “Pastafarian” pastor of
the Church of the Flying Spaghetti
Monster. He opened an Alaskan government
meeting with a prayer while wearing a
colander on his head. In his prayer he
said, “I’m called to invoke the power of
the true inebriated creator of the
universe, the drunken tolerator of all the
lesser and more recent gods, and
maintainer of gravity here on earth.”
The founders
of the Church of the Flying
Spaghetti Monster formed it as a satire on
other religions and has won court
rulings that it must receive equal
treatment.

The
second
commandment warns us about false gods. Even
when the false gods are
satire the Lord commands us not to have
them. —Jim L. Wilson and Rodger
Russell.
