A survey conducted by
Careerbuilder.com found that in 2004,
43 percent of workers in the United States
called in sick when they felt fine.
The results indicate a growing trend, because
the numbers were up from 35
percent from the previous year. The survey
revealed excuses for missing work
were increasingly off-the-wall.
Many workers simply said they
lied about not feeling well.
Others made up elaborate excuses. One person
phoned in saying they could not
come to work because they forgot they were
getting married that day. Other
reasons for calling in sick blamed everything
from wet cement to snakes, and
even God. One employee reportedly told his boss
that he did not believe in
alarm clocks, and "God didn't wake me."
The survey polled hiring
managers and found that the most
popular day to miss work was Wednesday. Managers
surveyed said they were most
suspicious of workers who called in sick Mondays
and Fridays. According the
managers, excuses rarely work because a fourth
of them said they had fired an
employee for missing work without a legitimate
reason.

EXCUSES
Police pulled over a Louisiana
driver for expired license plates.
The man admitted he had been putting it off
for a while. Actually, he had put
it off for 23 years that is how far out of
date his registration was. He gave
the officer his excuse, “I’ve been busy lately
and totally forgot to renew my
vehicle registration.”

When are you going to quit making
excuses for doing what you know
to be the right thing; Whatever that right
thing is? Jesus said we should be
prepared, we never know when the end will be.

ready, because the Son of Man is
coming at an hour you do not expect.
