In an interview with Reader’s

friend had told her about eternity. “Someone
said to me, hopefully when you die and go to
heaven and God is at the gate and he asks you a

loved, but how well did you love?”

Though I believe I have a lot
of room in my heart to love others, I’m glad I
don’t have to count on that ability as my ticket
into heaven. Instead, it is quite the opposite;
it is how well God loved me.

Things are not always as they
seem. Some safety experts are saying that some
safety devices on our cars are actually "unsafe"
under certain conditions. Air bags are
responsible for saving many lives but, they can
also increase the odds of a child dying in a
crash.
Anti—lock brakes are supposed
to help drivers avoid accidents. But these
brakes don't always enhance safety. If a driver
"pumps" the brakes, they do not work

Time has a way of changing
our perspective. In the early 1940's Ruth Gruber
was working, on behalf of the government, to
promote the Alaskan territory to homesteaders.
She traveled by truck, dogsled, and when she was
lucky, by plane.
In 1942, she was about to
board a plane headed for Nome, when she received
a message from the Secretary of the Interior.
This was before the day of satellite pagers-it
wasn't an instant message, the telegraph
operator had to decode it for her. The bush
pilot became impatient and told her he couldn't
wait any longer, the plane would have to leave
without her.
Gruber was in a bind, she
couldn't walk away from a message from the
Secretary of the Interior, she had to wait. I'm
sure she wasn't happy to miss her flight and to
have to arrange other transportation to Nome.
The impatient pilot couldn't wait just a few
more minutes, which ended up saving her life.
Soon after taking off, the plane crashed into a
mountain, killing everyone on board.
—Biography, Sept 2001, p. 72
For a while, Gruber was
wishing the operator would hurry up. Later, she
was glad he didn't. If time can change our
perspective like that, what does eternity do?
Wealth, status, position-they all become
unimportant when viewed through the perspective
of eternity.
James 1:9-11 NASB "But let
the brother of humble circumstances glory in his
high position; [10] and let the rich man glory
in his humiliation, because like flowering grass
he will pass away. [11] For the sun rises with a
scorching wind, and withers the grass; and its
flower falls off, and the beauty of its
appearance is destroyed; so too the rich man in
the midst of his pursuits will fade away."

In a recent poll by the Pew
Research Center, the age where the average
person considers someone “old” is 68. However,
there is a generational difference in the
perception of who is old. The younger people
are, the sooner they believe old age sets in.
For those in the survey from ages 18-29, old age
starts at 60. For 30-49 year-olds it is almost a
decade later at 69. Those 50-64 don’t think old
age begins until 72. If you are over 65, senior
citizen status is delayed until 74.

While the attempt to
appear, feel, and act young is a continual
battle among the aging population, the truth
remains, everyone who lives long enough gets
old. Ponce de Leon may have searched long and
hard for the fountain of youth but he never
found it. There is only one solution to living
beyond old age and it not found in a fountain of
youth, but in the living water.

If there is anything that
gets a couple thinking about religion, it is the
thoughts of the children they are responsible
for. That is true, even for the world’s richest
couple.
Melinda Gates is Catholic,
goes to church, and wants to raise daughter
Jennifer that way. "But she offered me a deal,"
Gates says. "If I start going to church--my
family was Congregationalist--then Jennifer
could be raised in whatever religion I
choose."
So how did Gates respond?
He admitted that he is tempted, because he would
prefer she have a religion that "has less
theology and all" than Catholicism, but he has
not yet taken up the offer. "Just in terms of
allocation of time resources, religion is not
very efficient," he explains. "There's a lot
more I could be doing on a Sunday
morning."
That is a very interesting
comment from the man who gave us free cell and
video solitaire. The thing to remember is we
don’t invest Sunday morning for time, but for
eternity. Hopefully Jennifer will realize, as
does her mother, that there is more to life than
efficiency. Bill Gates may be able to leave
Jennifer millions of dollars, but a relationship
with Christ will give her millions of years, as
a beginning, in eternity.

For years, some scientists have suggested
including an additional dimension of space into
their research because it helps reconcile
theories involving electromagnetism and gravity.
Physicist Itzhak Bars, of the Department of
Physics and Astronomy at the University of
Southern California thinks adding another
dimension of time (other than the one we are
used to) may solve the problem. Bars suggests
time is not only a simple line from the past to
the future in a four dimensional world
consisting of three dimensions of space and one
of time. The physicist envisions the passage of
history as curves embedded in six dimensions,
with four of space and two of time.
Some physicists consider Bars’ theory a bit
unusual, but he believes the Bible offers
support for his theory. In 2 Peter 2:8 the
apostle states that with the Lord one day is
like a thousand years, and a thousand years like
one day. He notes Peter goes a step further,
implying that in the spiritual realm a moment is
like a thousand years and a thousand years like
a moment. The concepts could suggest that God
exists in a timeless dimension where past,
present and future merge and linear time does
not exist. Other passages such as, the first
verses from the Old Testament Book of Jeremiah
indicate that before he was born, the prophet
existed and was consecrated to God’s service.
Bars plans to conduct experiments to explore his
theory, which could produce findings offering
new insight into human existence and how God
interacts with the world.

loss, but he himself will be saved—but only as
through fire.”

NASA has plans for private
citizens to spend up to 30 days in the
International Space Station. It might be a
little expensive for most of us, $35,000 per
night. And that doesn’t include the trip to get
there. That will add another $52 million dollars
to the trip. That is quite the fee just to get
out of this world. I think I will wait until the
Lord takes me out of the world and brings me
home. –Jim L. Wilson and Rodger Russell.

2 Corinthians 5:8 (CSB) In
fact, we are confident, and we would prefer to
be away from the body and at home with the Lord.

Since
rumors of a fountain of youth surfaced
centuries ago, humans have been looking for a
way to live forever. A new high-tech attempt
is linking your brain to a computer, creating
a digital replica, and uploading it to the
computer. You enter a booth, scan and upload
your mind to a server, then download it into a
robot body. Neuroscience research labs across
the world are working on it, one small step at
a time. –Jim L. Wilson and Rodger Russell.
I love science, but this
sounds more like science fiction. Jesus told us
the secret of eternal life 2000 years ago.
John 3:36 (CSB)“The
one who believes in the Son has eternal life,
but the one who rejects the Son will not see
life; instead, the wrath of God remains on him.”

When a
person dies, their loved ones who are left
behind want to find ways to remember them. In
Cleveland, Ohio a Father-son duo, Michael and
Kyle Sherwood have started a company to help.
Their company, Save My Ink Forever, proposes
to skin the tattoos off the corpses and turn
them into framed artwork. The process takes
about three months, and the framed final
product—displayed behind “museum-quality UV
glass”—starts at $1,599 for a 5-by-5-inch
tattoo. The idea is for people to “feel
comforted being able to see that piece of
their loved one as a constant reminder of
them,” Kyle said.

John 6:40 (CSB)
For this is the will of my
Father: that everyone who sees the Son and
believes in him will have eternal life, and I
will raise him up on the last day.”

The makers of
the board game Monopoly have created a new
version of the game that promises to make the
seemingly endless game even longer.The
new board has an outer track and an inner
track containing 96 spaces, compared to 40 on
the original. There are 66 properties, 12
railroads and six utilities. The object of the
game is for one person to own every possible
property, railroad and utility. Players can
keep going even if they are bankrupt and they
can also cut up their money to keep going. The
new game only has one die so there are no
extra turns from rolling doubles. Amazon is
the exclusive distributor for the new game,
and they say it is so popular that it is
currently unavailable. They hope to have new
copies soon.—Jim L. Wilson and Jim Sandell.
He
has made everything appropriate in its time. He
has also put eternity in their hearts, but no
one can discover the work God has done from
beginning to end.

Though the audience was
limited due to pandemic
restrictions, hundreds gathered at St. Burchardi
Church in Halberstadt to hear
the organ change chords on September 5, 2020.
The organ in playing an
experimental piece of music called Organ/ASLSP
written by John Cage in the
1980s. The organ had been playing the same chord
for six years and 11 months
before the change on September 5. The musical
selection started September 5,
2001 and was silent until February 5, 2003 when
the first chord began. If all
goes according to plan, the music piece will
last another 620 years before the
last chord is played in 2640. —Jim L. Wilson and
