DISCRIMINATION
As Southeastern Baptist Seminary in North Carolina
began classes for the fall, Seminary President Daniel Akin challenged the
students and faculty to make the campus a "discrimination-free zone." Akin
said the message had been on his heart for months. He said, "Our God is
a color-blind God, our God is a dollar blind God. The God in (Scripture)
is an impartial God. He sees the genius and the fool the same way."
Akin warned that discriminating against another person
because of their clothes, skin color, or social status is "theologically
illogical," because the Bible reveals a God who reaches out to the outcast,
a theme demonstrated through the life of Jesus repeatedly. Akin encouraged
the students to "look at others with the eyes of Jesus."

The challenge for all of us is make our lives a "discrimination-free
zone."
James 2:9-10 (CEV) "But if you treat some people better
than others, you have done wrong, and the Scriptures teach that you have
sinned. [10] If you obey every law except one, you are still guilty of
breaking them all."
DISCRIMINATION
A 4-year-old pre-K student in Oklahoma was forced
to use his right hand while making his letters. The teacher sent a note
home to the parents advising them of the reason. “There are numerous instances
of left-handedness being associated with wickedness,” read the astounded
parents. —Jim L. Wilson and Rodger Russell
We can find so many different reasons to find fault
with others. We seem to have difficulty understanding anyone different
than ourselves, so we attempt to either shame them or change them. Absurdity
such as this weakens our attempts to speak to our world on truly important
issues.

Romans 14:10 (HCSB) But you, why do you criticize
your brother? Or you, why do you look down on your brother? For we will
all stand before the tribunal of God.
