In his book Morph, Ron
Martoia writes, “Early in our Christian lives,
we learn about the need for devotions, prayer,
Bible study, memorization, and, depending upon
your tradition, a host of other ‘musts.’
Vigilance in keeping those patterns and
practices fresh takes monumental effort. Over
and over again in my life, I’ve struggled to
keep these intended life-giving practices fresh.
When I released myself from the inherited 'I
must do these things this often to be
spiritual,' I started on a whole new course. I
realized there were days I really wanted to read
God's Word and days I really didn’t want to.
There were times I was motivated to memorize a
chunk of Scripture and times I wasn’t. Early in
my ministry, I would have never given myself the
permission to not read the Bible daily. But I
have surely learned that the days I feel I want
solitude or don't want to journal are totally
fine with God.”

Can a person be Jewish and
Buddhist at the same time? I'm not sure that a
Jewish Rabbi or a Buddhist Priest would be
willing to form a hybrid religion by
compromising their beliefs to accommodate the
others.
People are deeply spiritual
today. But their spirituality does not
necessarily resemble Biblical spirituality and
they aren't automatically monogamous to any one
religion. Like passing through a cafeteria line,
people pick and chose elements out of different
religions they will follow. It isn't "no faith"
or a "different faith," it is "designer
faith."
Faith in Christ cannot be
combined with faith in anything else. To follow
Christ, people have to leave everything else
behind. He demands total loyalty and
obedience.

The Latest survey by
Researcher George Barna suggests Americans are
inconsistent in their spiritual perspectives.
Barna found that seven out of ten Americans
claim to have made a personal commitment to
Jesus Christ that is important in their lives
today. About half will attend church in a given
week, but only one in five claims that the local
church is important to their spiritual growth.
Though a majority of Americans surveyed say they
want their lives to matter, only 44 percent of
those surveyed say they want to "personally make
the world and other people's lives better." The
older a person was, the more likely they were to
feel strongly about making a difference in the
life of another person.
Though findings seem to
contradict recent faith-affirming statistics;
Barna says they are in line with the data
collected over the past 25 years. Barna explains
the results indicate Americans are willing to go
to church, read the Bible, and put money in an
offering plate and use these activities to
convince themselves they are people of genuine
faith. He says most people stop short of
allowing God to change their character and
lifestyle. He says, "We want to have God's
favor, but we're not sure we want Him taking
control of our lives and messing with the image
and outcomes we've worked so hard to
produce."

The first line of defense against explosive

400 Iraqi police checkpoints, really work. One
official described the bomb-sensing “divining

The Iraqi Major General in charge disagrees
with the United States position. When American

Chan said a lot of people go to church these
days and stare forward, sing a couple songs,
hear a sermon, and go home. He said too often
Christians are “Missing it” referring to a level
of commitment and passion for spreading the
gospel demonstrated by the early church. Chan
says al believers are called to live like the

What does it cost to follow Christ? For actor
Jim Caviezel, who portrayed Jesus in the 2004

eventually become unhealthy if a person becomes

complaint most people have as to why

relationships fade. Eunice says the choice to

Adrian Solano nearly fell at the starting gate
of the Nordic World Ski Championships in
Finland. Then after a wobbling start, he took
a tumble at one of the first curves,
repeatedly falling while making it about
one-third the way around the course before he
ran out of time.
An examination
of his training made his problem clear. While
he had trained, it had been on skis with
wheels on them. Coming from a tropical
country, he had never actually skied on snow.
One principle
of discipleship is that you can never lead a
person closer to God than you are yourself. To
be a disciple-er, you must first be a
disciple. –Jim L. Wilson and Rodger Russell.

David
Knowles must be a good teacher. The
77-year-old retired nurse was teaching CPR to
fellow church members in southern England when
he went into cardiac arrest. As he lay on the
floor he gave further instruction to his
trainees on how to help him before he lost
consciousness. One class member, Karol Chew,
began administering the CPR she had just
learned. Knowles is alive today because his
student learned the lesson well.
It is a
blessing to a teacher when the student learns
the lesson well. In this case, it was more
than a blessing, it was a life saver. —Jim L.

Josiah Carelse poured a bowl of Quaker granola
from a box he purchased at Walmart the week
before. Carelse said that he noticed a funny
taste and it tasted very stale. Well, no
wonder. The sell-by date on the box was 21
years ago. Carelse said he felt fine after
eating the ancient oats but they were very
unsatisfying.
Jesus
said
if Christians lose their taste, they are good
only for disposal. I bet the Carelse family
disposed of the useless granola. We are to be
the salt of the earth. When we fail to serve
Jesus we let the community down. —Jim L.

Boerne, Texas may hold the easiest
race there is to enter and complete. The race,
run in May, is a 0.5k very mini-marathon. The
546-yard race features a rest stop at the
halfway point where runners can refill on
coffee and doughnuts. Upon completing the
race, all runners received a T-shirt and an
oval Euro-style 0.5k sticker.
Some of us may be able to run
marathons, some only half marathons. Some can
only run 0.5k with a donut break in the
middle.
The same is true of our Christian
life. God expects each of us to use the gifts
we are given to serve him. —Jim L. Wilson and

An Arizona
man, Matthew Disbro, flipped on the police
lights of his black Dodge Charger to pull over
a flashy yellow Ford Mustang containing two
men. The problem was the two men in the
Mustang were police officers and Disbro is
not. The real police officers charged the fake
policeman with impersonating a police officer.
If it were
possible to charge a person with impersonating
a Christian, could you be so charged? Jesus
said it is possible for a person to call him
or herself a Christian without actually being
one. We should live every moment of every day
as a believer. —Jim L. Wilson and Rodger
Russell.

TV producer Cliff McDowell
hopes his new animated series will help children
learn to pray, build a relationship with God,
and deal with common childhood struggles.
McDowell created a 26-part series called “Sea
Kids,” which is about a group of underwater
character with bright colors and inspiring
storylines. The series deals with topics like
bullying, shyness, and bragging. McDowell said
the themes come from his own faith journey and
he thinks it will have a big impact by inspiring
kids to think deeper about the world around
them. McDowell said, “It teaches young kids how
to pray (and) how to talk with Jesus, but it
also focuses on some struggles that kids go
through.”Sea
Kids will be available through streaming on

Khurram impersonated a doctor at one of
India’s top hospitals for five
months. Khurram wore a lab coat and carried a
stethoscope as he routinely
chatted with patients at New Delhi’s All India
Institute of Medical Sciences.
Even though he had no medical training he
impressed the staff with his
knowledge of medicine. Real doctors eventually
became suspicious of Khurram
because he rarely seemed busy—junior doctors
typically work 20-hour shifts. “We
started wondering how he had so much time,”
said Dr. Harjit Singh Bhatti.
