DANGER

As Charles Wesley was preparing to put the steak and lobster on the grill, he stopped by some bushes in his yard to pull a couple of weeds. Along with the weeds, he saw a yellow and black box about the size of a car battery that put a real damper on his afternoon barbeque—the box had the word "nuclear" on it.

Wesley says “That’s all I needed to see is the words, 'radioactive’ and 'nuclear.' Something like that you can't just throw it in your trash can." Wesley contacted authorities, who put a quick end to his barbeque. Police cordoned off the area and evacuated the neighborhood while they investigated. After all, in this age of terrorism, you can’t be too safe.

Authorities later determined the box was a nuclear compaction device used in construction. Bethlehem Assistant Fire Chief David Rufe says it had the same radiation level as two household smoke detectors. There was no real danger to Wesley, not this time anyway, but it always pays to exercise caution—especially when not doing so could have catastrophic results.

Things are not always as safe as they seem. Most people would assume that bottled Mineral Water is pure, without any trace of fungi or bacterial contamination. But Dr.Rocus R.Klont, a Dutch researcher reports that 40% of the samples they recently studied at the University Medical Center Nijmegen tested positive for fungi or bacteria."These findings indicate that the general perception that bottled water is safe and clean is not true," Klont said.

Danger often lurks in unexpected places; that's why we must forever be diligent.

Ashwag Hajihamid is a young Yazidi woman who was abducted by ISIS and sold into slavery in Iraq back in 2014. She escaped Iraq and fled to Germany. All was well until one day in Germany when she encountered the man that had enslaved her. “I ran away from Iraq so I would not see that ugly face and forget anything that reminds me of it, but I was shocked to see him in Germany.”

World Magazine, September 15, 2018 p. 12

Those that enslave us are everywhere and they are not always human. Sometimes they are things, possessions, addictions, lusts, or attitudes. We must always be on guard for those things or people who would devour us. —Jim L. Wilson and Rodger Russell.

1 Peter 5:8 (CSB)

Be sober-minded, be alert. Your adversary the devil is prowling around like a roaring lion, looking for anyone he can devour.

After all their other efforts failed, National Grid announced they would bring a canon to scare away hundreds of crows that have been hanging around an electrical substation in Massachusetts. The utility company said they were removing the birds because if one landed on the wrong piece of equipment, it could cause a huge power outage.  They are also concerned because bird droppings are corrosive to connections. They said no birds would be hurt, because the propane canon does not launch anything; it just makes loud noises that annoy the birds. The canon will be fired for several days, and police have warned residents about the project.—Jim L. Wilson and Jim Sandell

DANGER

An unnamed resident of Lake Worth Beach, Florida has an interesting 14-year-old pet parrot. His neighbors heard someone screeching from inside his house. “Let me out!” “Let me out!” the voice called. They did what any good citizen would do. They called 911.

When four sheriff’s deputies arrived, they discovered the man calmly working on a car in his driveway who took them in the house and introduced them to the Rambo, his screaming parrot.

I hope the false alarm does not discourage the reporting neighbors in the future from reporting such disturbances. That could have been a disastrous situation. There are a lot of people in danger who need someone calling 911. –Jim L. Wilson and Rodger Russell.

Matthew 10:27 (CSB)

What I tell you in the dark, speak in the light. What you hear in a whisper, proclaim on the housetops.
