BOLDNESS/WITNESS/EVANGELISM/HIGHER POWER

Actress Lisa Whelchel grew up playing the role of Blair Warner, on the 1980s sitcom, The Facts of Life. These days she is in the middle of a yearlong motor home tour of the country with her husband and three children. Lisa says it's not hard for her to live out her faith in Christ in Hollywood.

Whelchel says about six months ago, she talked with a top publicist who asked if she could tone down her testimony. Instead of saying "God", could she say refer to the "universe", or "a higher power" that has helped her through life?

Whelchel said, "I don't have any experience with a ‘higher power’ helping me through life, but I have a lot of experience with Jesus helping me through life." She said believers who have a consistent lifestyle can make a big difference in Hollywood.

Whelchel says, "People in Hollywood have met those people who call the name of Jesus as Lord, and then go on living just like everyone else in Hollywood. Just as surely as they know when it's not real, they recognize when it's real, when it's Jesus really living inside somebody-and they're affected by that."

Whelchel's example shows that believers in Jesus do not have to be confrontational or combative to be heard. They just need to be real."

Romans 1:16-17. “I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first the Jew, then for the Gentiles. For in the gospel a righteousness from God is revealed, a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: The righteous will live by faith."

BOLDNESS

In the very beginning of the blockbuster hit, The Black Panther, King T’Challa (The Black Panther) is sitting on his shaping waiting to drop into battle.  Knowing that a woman he liked would be down there, his wise general advised him, “Don’t Freeze.”  T’Challa laughs and then responds, “I never freeze.” —Jim L. He then drops into battle and you can imagine what happens.  As soon as things get tense, he sees this woman and freezes.  Fortunately, things worked out for him this time.  Also, this apparently was a recurring issue for him because when he returned home, T’Challa’s sister looked to the general and asked, “He froze, didn’t he?”  They laugh because, in this case, freezing had little consequence.  Later on, freezing or acting boldly in the moment determine pivotal outcomes throughout the movie.

2 Corinthians 3:11–12 (CSB) “For if what was set aside was glorious, what endures will be even more glorious. Since, then, we have such a hope, we act with great boldness.”
