AWAKENING

In July 1984 an automobile accident nearly claimed the life of Terry Wallis. He was so seriously injured that the 39 year-old man had been in a coma until June 2003. Wallis’s mother was standing by his bed when he awoke. She was startled when he spoke to her.

Angilee Wallis calls her son’s return to consciousness a miracle. His wife Sandi says, “It’s been hard dealing with it, it’s been hard realizing that the man I married can’t be there. We all, the whole family, missed out on his company.”

Wallis spent most of his time at the rehabilitation center, but his family often took him home for weekends and special occasions. Sandi Wallace says the doctors believe Wallis remembers things because his family kept his mind active.

Wallis is learning to speak again and has set his sights on another miracle. His daughter Amber was born shortly after the accident and is now 19-years-old. Though the accident left him a quadriplegic, Wallis hopes to walk again for his daughter.
