One-fourth of Americans do not exercise at all during the
course of a week according to a new study released by the Center For Disease
Control. The research conducted in the year 2000 is based on interviews with
32,000 people, which gauged the respondent’s work and leisure activities.
The study found that people who are not active in their work
environment do not make up for it by being active at home. Instead, people with
sedentary jobs remain sedentary at home. On the other hand, individuals who are
active at work are also active at home. Statistician Pat Barnes says, “An
example is someone who does landscaping is more likely to do some leisure
activity than someone who sat at a desk all day long.”
Though roughly 75 percent of Americans claim to engage in
moderate activity at least three times a week, 34 percent of Americans are
overweight or obese. Only 20 per cent of the respondents could be classified as
very physically active.
The Government recommends adults get at least 30 minutes of
moderate exercise most days of the week to fight obesity, heart disease,
stroke, and diabetes. Health officials want to reach a goal of having 30 per
cent of the population exercise 30 minutes or more, five days a week by the
year, 2010.

Good stewardship dictates that we care for our bodies. It
also means that we must care for our souls.
1 Corinthians
9:25-27 NIV “Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training.
They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that
will last forever. Therefore I do not run like a man running aimlessly; I do
not fight like a man beating the air. No, I beat my body and make it my slave
so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for
the prize.”
